SEIZURE
151-189 Harper Road London London, Greater London SE1 6AEt : view phone020 7713 1402
Description
SEIZURE, sculptor Roger Hiorns’s brilliant blue crystal cave within a low-rise modernist development re-opened this year on a housing estate near the Elephant & Castle.
Over the course of a few weeks, Hiorns encouraged the total crystal takeover of a one-bedroom council flat. Blue copper sulphate crystals grew over every surface of the space – walls, ceilings, floor and bath – to create a strange and compelling new world.
When the interior was opened up to the public, word quickly spread about the breathtaking blue space and the project attracted thousands of people each week.
SEIZURE, Hiorns’s first major sculptural project in an urban site, has earned him a nomination for this year’s Turner Prize, one of Britain’s most prestigious art awards.
