Additional Information
Description
Grindsmith is a space in the heart of Manchester where coffee and art can meet and be challenged. We are a gourmet coffee outlet hosting constantly evolving exhibitions of fresh work from our rosta of artists. In Grindsmith we really don't mind if the paints still wet or the work is unresolved. The allowance for real time evolution of ideas permits the art to operate on its own terms.
Mankind defines itself through the act of living. The everyday situations shape the way in which we see ourselves and our world. Art is a product of our lifelong experiences yet we are too often estranged from it. Art and our everyday lives have perhaps moved too far apart. Nobody should feel that art is something remote from their experiences. Grindsmith offers a space where everyday life and art meet and mingle the way they should. Bringing life and art into the same frame allows us to relate to the mechanics of the work and perhaps allow a more cognitive understanding of the artists' intentions.

“The human mind has gained a new strength by out-staring this emptiness.”

Peter Carrington has produced a series of technical drawings of birds and animals mimicking scientific diagrams, but devoid of information and taken away from their textbook context.
